17 Hornet Ammo
The .17 Hornet is a high-velocity centerfire cartridge based on a necked-down .22 Hornet casing. First made available for sale to civilian shooters by Hornady, it offers excellent performance against varmints due to its excellent fragmentation potential.
.17 Hornet loads typically fire a very light 20-30 grain jacketed hollow point bullet at muzzle velocities in excess of 3,000 feet per second. They are effective out to 300 yards against coyotes and other pest animals, making for a cheap round that can easily help with most varmint control needs.
Hornady is still the leader in producing 17 Hornet ammunition and makes a variety of loads, most of which feature aerodynamic polymer tips for improved external and terminal ballistics.

It features Hornady’s revered V-MAX, a bullet that’s accurate as all get out with its sharp polymer tip, swaged lead core, carefully angled boat tail, and concentric copper jacket. Said tip sits perched on the rim of the jacket and projects down into a hollow within the core. It builds up great energy upon impact before connecting with the core, at which point it lets loose simply devastating fragmentation. No varmints will be laughing at you when you’ve got that kind of destructive potential on your side.
