The 25-06 lived outdoors as a wildcat cartridge for five decades until Remington finally let it in back in 1969. Originally a 30-06 case necked down to take a 25-35 WCF bullet, the 25-06 Remington combines low recoil, a high muzzle velocity, an impressive ballistic coefficient for a flat trajectory, and authoritative downrange energy. Whether you’re after 25 caliber bullets for target shooting, varmint detail, or deer hunting, you’ll find a good selection of 25-06 bullets for reloading courtesy of the leading manufacturers.
Naturally you’ll first want to select the right propellant for the round’s generous 66 grain case capacity. For target shooting the 25-06 Rem’s classic 117 grain weight in a BTHP will provide all that accuracy you’ve heard the round is famous for. For varmint hunting a lightweight 75 grain V-MAX or other expanding bullet loaded to exit the muzzle at around 3,300 fps should serve nicely. A 110 or 120 grain ELD-X or Partition can serve as the foundation of a legendary buck hunting cartridge.
Heavier bullets can slow a handload’s muzzle velocity down to as little as 2,600 fps, but that resulting steeper trajectory is simply the tradeoff you have to accept when your 25-06 bullets are intended for larger game.
