41 Magnum Bullets
41 Mag Bullets for Reloaders
The 41 Magnum is a big old revolver cartridge designed for law enforcement and hunting. Its intermediate performance to the 357 Magnum and the 44 Magnum is probably the main reason it never caught on – as well as the reason it’s harder to find. But if you’ve got the 41 Mag bullets you need for reloading, public opinion won’t deprive you of access to this underappreciated cartridge!
41 Mag bullets typically weigh 170, 175, 180, or 210 grains. (Very heavy 250 and 265 grain bullets for hunting are also available.) So long as you honor SAAMI’s max pressure of 35,000 psi, your 41 Mag handloads can deliver muzzle velocities anywhere between 955 and 1,800 fps (depending heavily on your propellant and barrel). The 41 Mag’s standard 210 grain JHP is typically loaded to a muzzle velocity of 1,300 fps.
The 41 Mag has a fairly big case, so take caution that the same propellant you might use for lighter loads might leave too much space in the case. Starline brass is pretty popular among 41 Mag reloaders. With that taken care of all you’ll need are some large pistol primers to make this versatile magnum round.
