Winchester 22LR Ammo

Ammo Guides/Rimfire Ammo
Winchester 22LR Ammo

Established by business magnate and Republican politician Oliver Winchester, the Big W has continually revolutionized the world of firearms for over 150 years. Even Dracula, which an Irishman wrote in the 19th century, includes an American character who repeatedly recommends Winchester rifles during his party’s continent-wide hunt for the physical embodiment of evil. If that’s not an endorsement for Winchester 22LR ammo, we don’t know what is!

Winchester Rimfire Lineup

Winchester manufactures nearly every kind of centerfire cartridge and shotgun shell you could name – but they are certainly no slouch in the rimfire department, either. If you’re looking forward to a good day of plinking, target shooting, competing, or hunting small game, Winchester’s selection of 22 LR has you squarely covered. (If you’re hunting vampires, stick to axes, garlic, and Bibles).

USA (White Box)

This is the classic Winchester white box ammo you’ve heard so much about! Consistent bullets, rimfire primers, clean-burning propellant, and brass cases will serve you well. Whether you’re seeing how tight you can group your shots or teaching squirrels the definition of “ouch,” USA series ammo is excellent for high-volume shooters. Don’t buy a brick of this ammo. Buy a concrete masonry unit instead!

Winchester 22LR Super-X/Varmint-X

Hunters know Super-X/Varmint-X ammunition provides exceptional quality and outstanding performance in the field.

Winchester’s Super-X/Varmint-X ammunition is nothing extraordinarily fancy. Still, its copper-plated hollow point bullets deliver the terminal expansion that makes short work of a wide variety of small game. Super-X ammo is also pretty easy on the old wallet, so you can afford to train with the same ammo you’d use to whack backyard invaders – you know, the kinds of critters that chew on siding, steal from bird feeders, and make the dog go bazooey whenever he sees them.

 M22

Designed to function reliably in semi-auto rifles, Winchester’s M22 is perfect for practice, plinking, or target shooting.

Winchester specifically developed this 22 LR ammo to ensure reliable functionality in AR-22 firearms with high-capacity magazines. It features a black copper-plated lead round-nose bullet that minimizes metal-on-metal friction. This promotes smooth feeding into a semi-auto chamber and reduces barrel fouling to conserve a firearm’s accuracy. It’s also loaded to deliver the consistent 1,255 fps muzzle velocity that dependably cycles a semi-auto!

M22 Subsonic

This line of ammunition has the same sleek and unique black copper-plated LRN as ordinary M22. Thanks to its heavier 45-grain weight, the bullet’s muzzle velocity clocks in at a mere 1,090 fps – about 35 fps lower than the speed of sound. M22 Subsonic 22 LR produces a softer report that perfectly complements suppressor use. It also emits low muzzle flash and still generates sufficient chamber pressure to operate a semi-auto.

Winchester 22LR Silvertip

Winchester Silvertip rimfire optimizes 22LR ammo performance for self-defense applications.

Is the 22 LR your surest bet for personal protection? Arguably not, although many people still prefer it for its outstandingly low recoil and ease of concealment. Winchester’s Silvertip series ammo is made for the rimfire defenders. It features a deep-penetrating segmented hollow point bullet that splits into multiple fragments to inflict just as many wound channels.

Super Suppressed

If you shelled out good money for a suppressor, you appreciate how effectively it can muffle your 22 LR firearm’s report. Winchester Super Suppressed ammo, loaded to a subsonic muzzle velocity, avoids emitting a sharp cracking sound on ignition – precisely the performance that makes a suppressor’s job even easier. Low muzzle flash, which will conserve your eyesight’s acclimation to low lighting, is a welcome bonus!

Varmint HE (High Energy)

Varmint HE ammunition provides high-energy, terminal performance with segmenting pin-point accuracy.

This round’s 37-grain bullet achieves an abnormally high muzzle velocity of 1,435 fps. That translates to striking energy of approximately 87 ft lbs at 100 yards. It is not for tagging Roosevelt elk, but it’s plenty sufficient for prematurely ending any small critter’s existence. Worse yet for the critter, a Winchester Varmint HE round is armed with a segmenting hollow point projectile that tracks multiple wound channels into its target.

Varmint LF (Lead-Free)

This round’s hollow point bullet features Winchester’s patented Tin Technology. You can use it for varmint hunting in jurisdictions where traditional lead bullets have been banned for environmental reasons. Tin isn’t nearly as dense as lead. Hence, this round’s featherweight 26-grain hollow point bullet achieves a staggering 1,650 fps muzzle velocity – without generating excessive chamber pressure.
