Aguila 22LR Ammo

Aguila 22LR

Remington Arms founded Aguila (Spanish for “Eagle”) in Cuernavaca, Mexico, in 1961. Today, Aguila operates independently from Remington, relying only on Texas Armament & Technology of Houston to export their fine ammo across the border.  While shooters sometimes may be hesitant about putting imported Aguila 22LR ammo into their firearms, Aguila is a brand known for their reliability and consistency.

The Aguila Prestige

Aguila is the primary small arms ammo supplier for Fuerzas Armadas de México – aka the Mexican Armed Forces – which means they crank out enormous quantities of 5.56×45 and 9mm. They’ve also garnered a reputation for their shotshells. Including 1-3/4” Minishells that can nearly double a shotgun’s magazine capacity without needing modifications.

But more than anything, Aguila is known for their rimfire ammo. They are in fact the largest rimfire manufacturer on the planet. Their 22 LR cartridges are outstandingly reliable thanks to their high-quality primers, engineered to win the full approval of discerning Olympic competitors. Here are all of Aguila’s lines of 22 LR, including some interesting specialty items!

Aguila 22LR High Velocity

Aguila’s 22LR High Velocity round features a 40gr copper-plated bullet to reduce fouling and barrel wear.

Your go-to solution for high-volume plinking and target practice! They come loaded with classic 40-grain copper-plated solid point bullets. A consistent supersonic 1,255 fps muzzle velocity out of a rifle’s barrel is just what a novice or expert marksman needs to do their best work.

 Hollow Point

If you need to get your point across to small game, don’t do it with a solid point. Do it with this round’s copper-plated hollow point, which combines a slightly peppier 1,280 fps muzzle velocity. It also has a terminal expansion that’ll make any squirrel regret crossing paths with you!

 Aguila 22LR Subsonic

They’ll never hear it coming. A whisper quiet hollow point made for hunting small game.

Shhh! This round’s 40-grain lead round nose bullet has a weaker propellant charge, so its muzzle velocity out of a rifle barrel is just 1,025 fps. That’s about 100 fps too slow to break the sound barrier. So you can train, plink, and hunt without making a ruckus. (Also available in 38 grain/1,024 fps muzzle velocity configuration.)

Sniper Subsonic

Woah, that’s a big bullet. At a heaving 60 grains, this round’s lead round nose has way too much inertia to attain a supersonic muzzle velocity. At 950 fps, it’ll emit a surprisingly soft report on ignition. Take care to use a barrel longer than 20” and a faster barrel twist if you want the best accuracy.

 Standard Velocity

Standard Velocity works as advertised in every rimfire chambered firearm we’ve ever tried it in.

The same tried-and-true 40-grain LRN as the Subsonic load, but with a just-barely supersonic muzzle velocity of 1,130 fps. If plinking is your game, Standard Velocity is your aim. A cost-effective solution to any hombre’s target shooting needs!

 Supermaximum

Aguila’s Supermaximum is a 30gr flat-nose, copper-plated bullet that screams out of the barrel at 1,700 FPS!

Not just maximum, mind you – Supermaximum! This one has a lightweight 30-grain copper-plated round nose bullet that screams out of the barrel at 1,700 fps. Look forward to a laser-flat trajectory that doesn’t undergo accuracy-weakening transonic destabilization until approximately 120 yards!

 Aguila 22LR Interceptor

Interceptor is the ultimate rimfire ammo engineered for hunting, target shooting, and performance.

Ultra-premium standard-weight copper-plated solid point bullets. They perch over clean-burning propellant charges that accelerate them to a blazing-fast muzzle velocity of 1,470 fps. Aguila bills it as the fastest 40-grain 22 LR on the market!

 Target Competition

Aguila target competition ammo is meticulously engineered for competition-level performance.

True competition-grade performance thanks to Aguila’s meticulous engineering and quality assurance protocol. Trust this premium round’s tried-and-trusted 40-grain lead round nose bullet to perform. With a subsonic 1,080 fps muzzle velocity ready to go when accuracy and precision are what matter.

 Colibrí

“Colibrí” is Spanish for hummingbird – a tiny thing that flies quietly. It’s a fitting name for this cartridge, which has a bantamweight 20-grain lead bullet and amazingly low 420 fps muzzle velocity. It barely utters a peep or generates recoil, which makes it perfect for quiet hunting and training younger shooters. But take care – a semi-auto will not cycle such weak 22 LR ammo. Muzzle energy: 8 ft lbs.

 Super Colibrí

It’s the same tiny 20-grain bullet but with a slightly juicier 590 fps muzzle velocity. You’re limited to a bolt-action or revolver while firing this ammo, but you’ll still get the quietest performance you’ll ever witness. Muzzle energy: 16 ft lbs!
